Filipino outrigger

Here is a proa featured in another interesting comparison and proposal by Fran├žois Chevalier. The Filipino outrigger's multiple sheets at different heights indicate influence from across the South China Sea (the Chinese junks have a sheet at each batten), and with a sprit square sail, would be able to point well. With two ama, each composed of one or more lashed bamboo canes, she qualifies as a trimaran. I have sailed quite a few times in the Visayas on motorized versions of these proas, with two-stroke outboard engines so loud that the tiller usually exceeds three metres in length, to be as far from the noise as possible!
