Filipino outrigger
Here is a proa featured in another interesting comparison and proposal by François Chevalier. The Filipino outrigger's multiple sheets at different heights indicate influence from across the South China Sea (the Chinese junks have a sheet at each batten), and with a sprit square sail, would be able to point well. With two ama, each composed of one or more lashed bamboo canes, she qualifies as a trimaran. I have sailed quite a few times in the Visayas on motorized versions of these proas, with two-stroke outboard engines so loud that the tiller usually exceeds three metres in length, to be as far from the noise as possible!
